Eye of Shark
6 September – 19 October 2014

In Eye of Shark at St. Carthage Hall in Lismore, a former place of worship, the literal eye of a shark was housed within the walls of a tabernacle behind a panel of white marble. The congregation was made real by the grouping of nine reclaimed cast-iron bath tubs arranged down the centre of the hall. Many bodies would have occupied these baths over decades cleansing themselves. Each bath was lined with a scum-line of pure gold, where the dirt normally accumulates, suggesting an alchemical transformation from dirt to gold. The line of gold lies where air meets water, beneath whose surface is the realm of the shark.
